Ecumenical Case Consultation Group for Therapists and Pastoral Counselors

Join our ongoing ecumenical case consultation group designed for licensed and provisionally licensed therapists, counselors, chaplains, and pastoral care providers. This group provides an opportunity to engage in clinical and theological reflection with peers, focusing not only on diagnosis and treatment planning, but also on deeper meaning, spiritual resources, and existential themes present in client work.

Consultation That Honors the Whole Person

The consultation group goes beyond typical clinical supervision to include:

  • Peer support and reflection on difficult cases

  • Exploration of spiritual and existential dynamics in therapy

  • Case consultation through both a multi-disciplinary clinical lens and a broad theological perspective

  • A confidential, enriching space for shared learning and professional growth

This group is committed to honoring the diversity of its members, encouraging thoughtful dialogue across ethnic, socio-economic, and religious perspectives.

What You’ll Gain and How It Works

This ongoing Case Consultation Group is designed to support licensed and provisionally licensed therapists, chaplains, and pastoral care providers who want to deepen their clinical insight and spiritual integration. Together, members reflect on challenging cases in a confidential, collaborative setting that values thoughtful peer learning, mutual respect, and theological depth.

Participants will:

  • Receive peer consultation on complex or ethically nuanced cases

  • Reflect on existential and spiritual themes in therapy

  • Learn how to listen for and integrate the client’s spiritual story

  • Deepen understanding of their own faith tradition and its role in their work

  • Expand awareness through dialogue with a diverse group of peers

Group format:

  • Facilitator: Chris O’Rear, M.Div., M.M.F.T., Licensed Clinical Pastoral Therapist with over 23 years of clinical experience

  • When: 1st & 3rd Fridays, 1:00 – 2:30 PM

  • Where: The Counseling Center at Belle Meade United Methodist Church | 121 Davidson Road, Nashville, TN 37205

  • Cost: Free of charge

  • Frequency: Ongoing. Members rotate in/out 1–2 times per year.

  • Application: Rolling applications accepted. New members are added throughout the year, pending space and a brief meeting with the facilitator.

Expectations:

  • Regular attendance is encouraged to foster a consistent, supportive learning environment

  • Members must maintain strict confidentiality and prepare case material in a way that protects client identity

  • Participants are expected to share openly and respectfully, listen with humility, and offer thoughtful feedback

  • Inability to honor group norms may result in removal from the group
