Alan Whitley

Therapist at The Counseling Center at St. Philip's Episcopal Church

Alan is a Licensed Master Social Worker. Alan is a graduate of Belmont University. After completing his Bachelor’s degree, he completed his Master’s at The University of Tennessee Knoxville.

Alan works regularly with individuals experiencing a variety of struggles including anxiety, depression, grief, low self-worth, relational challenges, life transitions specifically within college students, substance abuse, spiritual issues, and issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community.

Alan believes the most important part of therapy is creating a safe space for the client to be their full authentic self. Alan’s primary goal is to create a non-judgmental space and meet the client right where they are. While he works with a variety of therapeutic approaches, Alan finds most of his work centers around cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, narrative therapy, 12-step approach, and mindfulness- based approaches that utilize relaxation, deep breathing techniques, and essential oils. Alan believes that we each have a story, and that we each deserve the opportunity to embrace and heal the different chapters of our life.
